Cecil Martin

Cecil Martin, 93, of Clinton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 28, 2022. He was born on July 28, 1928 in Halifax County, Virginia. His family moved to Sampson Co. and farmed in the Taylor’s Bridge community. Cecil attended Taylor’s Bridge Ingold School where he played basketball and baseball. He is remembered as a softball and little league baseball coach through the years, as well as an avid gardener that was always sharing with others. He married Sarah Margaret “Pete” Hobbs on October 1, 1950. 

He leaves on Earth a legacy that includes his children; Cecil Michael Martin of Cary, NC, Marie Nester (Doug) of AR, Allison Martin (Debbie) of Clinton, and Jane Martin of Clinton. Three grandchildren; Scott Martin (Micala) of Twin Falls, Idaho, Hollis White (Jody) of Clinton, and Mary-Margaret Nester of, AR. Great grandchildren; Caiden and Maddox White of Clinton and Presley Martin (his angel) of Twin Falls, Idaho. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Nancy Martin and Jean Martin and several nieces and nephews as well as friends that became family. 

 He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Signora Robertson Martin, his beloved wife of 58 years, Sarah Margaret, and brothers Bobby and Billy Martin.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 3rd, 3:00 pm, at Clinton Cemetery officiated by Reverend Dr. William L. Hawkins. Visitation will follow the service at graveside. 

Family is requesting that in lieu of flowers and food, memorial contributions may be made to 4:10 Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps the students of Clinton City Schools
