Joseph J. Berger, 93, of 1317 Jasper Street, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023.
Graveside services will be held at 12 PM, Monday, September 25, 2023 at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Road, Goldsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
Joe, also known throughout Clinton as “Mr. Joe”, was born on August 5, 1930 in Washington, DC, was the son of the late Louis Berger and Blanche Sacks Berger. Joe served as a medical technician in the U.S. Armed Services from 1947-1951, was a member of the American Legion Post 319, an avid bowler, loved to fish and was a huge Washington Redskins fan. After separation from the Armed Forces, he became a bus driver for the DC Transit System and later became involved in the training, boarding and grooming of dogs, and eventually opened his own kennel and grooming business.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Berger; children, Deborah Thurston, Wendy Best (preceded in death), Richard Berger, and Rebecca Elliott; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
